Haven't read the article, Cam, but did you know that FDR has accused (a politically motivated accusation in by opinion based on my study and paper I wrote on Pearl Harbor) of intentionally withholding information about Pearl Harbor and leading the US into WWII. Sounds like the accusations againt Bush vis-a-vis Irag, eh! Never mind the bad guy needed to be taken out.

I'd be willing to believe the FDR accusation if there is some credible evidence to support it. Plus, there is a significant different between World War 2 and Iraq. Saddam was a bad guy, no doubt. So why are we ignoring the killings in Uzbekistan, if we are against oppressive government regimes?

If the US actually cared about repressive governments, we 'd be occupying half of the African continent and Asia, as well as Eastern Europe

According to the conspiracy theory FDR suppressed intelligence that could have prevented the attack on Pearl Harbor, and he did this because letting the attack happen would guarantee him an excuse to enter WWII. No credible evidence has ever surfaced to support this view, and ac510 is right to note it's politically motivated. The Downing Street Memo, however, does provide credible evidence from the top official at Britain's MI6 that "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy" to invade Iraq. So the difference between these two presidents is that FDR is accused only by wingnuts of manipulating intelligence to bolster war ambitions, while GWB has pretty much been proven to have done so...
